Analogue of Desire –
An exhibition of paintings by Peter ILLIG at one of Denver’s newest nightspots. Show opens October 31 and runs through Feb 2015.
Known for his large figurative paintings and drawings, Peter Illig has shown in many of Denver’s high profile venues; among them, Plus Gallery, Museum of Contemporary Art/Denver, Pirate Contemporary Art, and now Denver Syntax.
Illig’s paintings can be viewed as metaphors for relationships between men and women, our darker unconscious motives, for the heroic and dramatic in everyday life and urban experience, and our searches for meaning. He mines the past for provocative images that have relevancy in contemporary life.
Like changing television channels, or surfing the web, images move like a sliding puzzle in these works, a grid work of cultural meanings – elusive, oblique references, innuendo, erotic symbolism, implications, metaphors, unclear boundaries, non sequiturs, incongruities, romantic ideas.
Syntax Physic Opera is located at 554 S. Broadway, Denver CO. The works can be viewed during regular hours 4pm to 12 M.
Show will run through Feb 2015.
