A terrific show worth seeing in Denver. Producing highly visual and challenging paintings, Homare Ikeda has created a series of dense, energetic, colorful abstractions. He uses every technique known to painting; lush, heavy brushstrokes, thin transparencies, drips, textures, scumbling, blotting, illusions of depth, detailed drawing, layering, and geometric and organic shapes. Warm and cool color combinations energize the surface; there is constant tension and the push-pull of forms. The work is very satisfying and engaging, both up close and from a distance. These are works that could only be made by a seasoned master of painting.
